Not a Sausage !

Over my years of blogging, I have regularly written about things that may reduce your chances of getting dementia. ( You can find earlier posts by clicking on “ dementia” in the TAG CLOUD )

Mostly they require you to give up something you enjoy —- sugary food, meat, wine, beer. But, now the last straw is SAUSAGES.

No less an authority than Harvard University, whose researchers studied 130,000 people over a 45 year period and concluded that sausages weren’t good for you. Apparently they found sausage eaters have a 20% higher chance of getting dementia.

What a miserable piece of research! Especially bad news for Germans.

I am going to forget I ever read about it.

  1. not a sausage, Just bangers from the fire work shop, What were they called ‘Little demons’?????

Remember them on mischeif night November the 4h, tied on a lenghtb of string to the next doors, or neifghbours door handle, so that when the door was answered all one git was ‘BANG’./

JUST WHAT ONE NEEDS IN OLD AGE NOW neighbourleness, and friendly help.

  2. From little bangers, or buggers as you may call them to the elderly, and confused, just mixed up a little.????

It is interesting in my 81 year with a little sauvey and some memory loss, now living in a retirement village, of which the average age is 81/82 maybe, what is it I require or may need in my later years? In fact how may more years Have I got??? 64 million dollar question? It is entriguing?

It is grand to wander into the village bistro/cafe area, or catch a lift to an upper floor with either a gent or lady resident of the village. Passing the time of day we all have slight mobility problems, and some have slight mentalissues, not offencive but friendly and enquiring. On the whole should we ask a question, we may need firstly some physical help-in and out of a chair, reaching up above ones head to a shelf, or a memory jogger what is the ceral called that goes -snap grackle and op, or tastle like little bits of wheat? there again operating not a telephone, but a cash machine understndinf the actual instructions, within the time frame of the machines memory, one gets confused.

There again taliking to ones friends neighbours and the local quack or memory clinic, I have a name my diesase dianoisis if alhzimeird or dememtia, what does it mean to me, Personnally. Myparents and my friends parents were dead by the age of 76 on aveage, there again if i=one lived beyond this age one was lucky and usually looked after/ However now with the average age in thsi village at 82 we are beyond my parents days of life expectancy, and now we are the people with what the medical profession call dementia, alhzimiers and other types of maybe memory loss without the age expectancy of lossing mobilty, so we need independant living a a little help in achieving this, Great this retirement village we need to understand each other and be tolerant of our younger generation of home helpers assistants, and famly.

So are we little ‘demons; or just old buggers???? I will leave that to you????

  3. standard fireworks company, Hudderfield, they made the ‘little demons’ that was in the 50/60s now what am i an ‘old fart’??? just a passing wind, making the bonfire glow brighly, or blowing out the story, I just wonder??? Are you pasing this way dear reader, what are your thoughts, ‘bangers’ or sausages, Pork or BEEF? can you consume a solid meal, or a thought or two of what the term ‘sausages mean???

  4. now then wat would one consider a sausage? Harvard university would condem I think the Black Pudding sausage of northern england, with their dollops of visible fat wthin the mix. There again Harvard may object to the enlish, but congratulate and praise the scots for their black pudding sausage with no dollops of seperae fat.

Long live the sausage and the english!! Dance a fling you scots, and those american students/academics at harvard USA, just dance a tango, or JIG as one has one perculiarities against the english sausages???

  5. dear oh dear!! I have ranted on about sausages, miced up meat uncooked in a skin, eady to cook, either, roasted , friesd or barbqued, all a pleasure.

I had forgotten JOHN attached reminder below his blog of ‘BANGERS, and now having sat back and gently reflected about old age, and todays issues of the old elderly, alzhmiers, dementia, forgetfulness, and a littke loss of mobility. I must say John scrolled his original pieces some 10 to 15 yeqrs ago, and now they are true to me ‘TODAY; as I ENTER MY ‘ GOLDEN YEARS WITH MOLLY!

The lesson if I am still young enough to be educated is to ;LISTEN and TALK; most importantly to ones wife/partner/loved ones, and not to be too quick in a clinical clear cut solution, One grows up with I trust a loved one, has dependents, and in old age, with the odd loss of judgement at times it is for all to take a step back, but to socially include one eldrly dependents in a social group, such as a retirement vialge. care home or something similay where they are daily engaed, or should I say Iam engaged in chatter, company, and the occassional activities-Jig saw making/card playing.listenenong to music or just plain gossiping? Yes gossiping words and sentances tht have no meaning, with colleagues. staff, and residents and aminly ones loved one/wife/partner, to actively pass the time away.

It is what I have noe entered at 81 years OLD AGE, and more slowly defined as alhzhmiers and dementia. Are you reading, better still come and listen to me, I may have forgotten my name-DAVID-butmy mind has its moments still, when I make sense, bye,

    • please excuse spelling and gramatically errors, my fingers now a days are not so agile on the keyboard, Growing elderly, and slightly balmy? What do you think dear reader, I trust you make sense of my utterings!!!!

  6. memories ‘PUFF BANG FART’ chugg chugg, Its going? I have pulled the right levers, set the right KNOBS, my slow speed main engine doxford six cylinder marine engine is firing on all cylinders, whether I am going ahead or astern, I awaitnfor the douuble ring on the engine room telegraph. to tell me ‘I Have got it all wrong’ But hey never mind it is in my dreams???? in my younger days in charge of a watch on board a seagoing tanker,

  7. I have chuntered away in this blog? Phew some truth some rubbish?? However on reflextion i have reread John’s actual blog! the first sentance refers to the BLOGS under ‘DEMENTIA’, I have just browsed for an hour, scanning, and sometimes reading John’s comments uner this Headline BLog.

I have found it intering. all those years ago the definition of DEMENTIA to my mind just highlights the facts of growing older at 70+ and now in my early 80’s I agree with John’s finding today, as before while I appriciated old age, I have now attained that age, and lifehood of elderliness, and as John hs previously highlighted, the more important features of dementia is to maintain ones personal relationships and friends within a defined society, so one does not feel lonely! It is, or I find it rewarding to talk to people of my age group who have been through a lifetime of memories, and provided they have no hate or agression, I appriciate spending a few momments in a convesation, of modern times and some of lifes memories with some recall to where one was born reared or worked, and the general experiences inlife.

The main thing is to feel safe in this sort of environmen, with like minded people/friends, which JOHN has encouraged and actively followed and develpoped with the EXTRACARE Organisation, and a typical Exracare Retirement Village.

Today the problems and lifestyle can be thrugh the eyes of the 60/70 year olds may look different in thier interpretation of life in ones their own latter life, but I for one have been there and their and the main requirements are safety, suport and security, with friendliness and neighbourliness for the other residents and staff of our typical Extracare Charities Retirement Village, so I believe.

I thought I would make late 70/s now I may reach my 90/s which is quiet a future for the old age group in the UK Nation, again confrming the work and research done by organisations like the EXTRACARE Charities TRust COVENTRY, and its ASSOCIated COMPanies providing care homes for the UK Elderly.
