This is a continuation of the CAFE Happiness survey.    ( Other posts in this series can be found either by clicking on “CAFE Project” in the Tag Cloud or by clicking on  “GrumbleSmiles Trust” in the Topics list)

Volunteer

Nearly 70 % of our group do some type of voluntary work every week and a further 14% volunteer monthly.    This underlines the value of the older generations’ contribution to society and sharply contradicts the view of them as a burden !

Prep Volunteer

FOOTNOTE :-     Half of them are prepared to give a day a week of their           time.    Our challenge will be to come up with an ongoing project that could capture their imagination and involvement.

One Response to CAFE HAPPINESS survey VOLUNTEERS

  1. One personal insight into Volunteering! I enjoy volunteering and helping/assisting people of my age group (The Golden Oldies): However I appriciate it more when we all share a little of the yoke in pulling together. Not that one should avoid friendships or family connections, I have the fear of being seconded or cornered into One On One relationships, and total dependancy, or the the dependant ONE for one paticular person? I think the joy of volunteering, and recieving help is like life, to have an outlook, and a general approach, helping the majority, help them selves, and including those less able to join in and also enjoy any occassion, including group activities.
I believe variety and a broad church of aquantances help one when asked to help one particular person/friend makes the task more worthwhile, and meaniful than if you are the only dependent person. It is a way of life and as one ages. One has to consider such attitudes, and one should not become selfish as a user of volunteering services and just look for freeloading/help and asistance on all occassions! There has to be some give and take, and to an extent a personal commitment to ones fellow human being. You reap what you sow?? Yes/No
Again with age as one becomes more elderly Trust is an essential feature with security of ones personal self and affairs. Life is not easy, we all have something to learn?
